Survey Uncovers Women’s Views on Cryptocurrency as a Hobby

The blog Date Psychology recently ran a survey that revealed interesting information regarding women’s opinions regarding cryptocurrency as a hobby activity.

On August 24, a convenience sample of 814 people participated in the survey, with 48% of them being female. Interestingly, the sample population was disproportionately made up of highly educated, socially successful, and primarily White women.

Just 23.1% of female respondents who were asked to rank 74 different activities as either attractive or unattractive thought that cryptocurrency would be an attractive activity.

According to this, women find cryptocurrency to be among the least interesting pastimes; in contrast, cosplay and comic book reading are more popular.

Remarkably, among male respondents, 13.7% said women would find males involved in cryptocurrency attractive when asked about interests. But most guys were right when they said that the most attractive pastime for women is learning to play an instrument.

The survey’s authors emphasised the importance of selecting hobbies based on one’s own enjoyment rather than on opinions from others, emphasising that people who base their hobby choices on opinions from others are unlikely to remain interested over time.

Crucially, in spite of these findings, the survey’s creators stressed the need to engage in hobbies for oneself as opposed to concentrating on what other people find appealing.

The most recent study results are consistent with a different Pew Research survey conducted among 10,701 American adults in April 2023, which revealed that women were less likely than men to participate in cryptocurrency-related activities.

Just 10% of women and 25% of men, respectively, had ever traded, used, or invested in cryptocurrency, according to this survey.

Gemini’s 2022 Global State of Crypto study shows that women are notably under-represented in the cryptocurrency space, with only approximately one-third of crypto investors in the United States being female.

The male-dominated fields of finance and technology are reflected in this under-representation, which further contributes to the lower rates of participation of women in blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

Still, the poll also revealed several interesting possibilities in this field. Some women think that the world of cryptocurrency is more welcoming to women than the traditional banking industry, despite certain obstacles.

Due to its decentralised structure, there is hope that it may be possible to eliminate the barriers that have traditionally prevented women from gaining money and power in the financial industry.

The survey offers an interesting viewpoint on how women feel about cryptocurrencies as a hobby. It emphasises the need for increased diversity and representation in the blockchain and cryptocurrency spaces, as well as the possibility that in the future, women may find the cryptocurrency world to be more attractive and approachable.
